Final Conference of the Interreg Project “MAURICE”

26 February 2026 | 09:00 – 17:00
Palazzo Lombardia – Sala Belvedere “Silvio Berlusconi” (39th floor, entrance N1)
On Thursday, 26 February 2026, the Final Conference of the Interreg project “MAURICE” – Management of Urban Water Resources in Central Europe Facing Climate Change will take place at Palazzo Lombardia.
The project, led by Politecnico di Milano together with Consorzio Est Ticino Villoresi, with the support of Regione Lombardia, MM S.p.A., and ISPRA, has developed and tested an innovative solution to address drought events based on the use of irrigation canals to promote water circulation and aquifer recharge during the autumn and winter period. Water distributed over agricultural fields infiltrates the soil and replenishes underground reserves, contributing to the creation of a natural storage system available in spring and summer, with positive effects on the resilience of the water system to climate-related risks.
The final conference represents an opportunity to present the results of the pilot actions carried out in Milan and Stuttgart and to foster technical and institutional discussion on the implementation of Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) in Italy as a climate change adaptation measure and as a component of integrated water resources management.
